Some people I know had the luxury of staying at home rent free for years in order to save up.

I had no choice but to rent from the age of 18 so it was double tough to do that and save for a deposit. Got there in the end, but it's tough.

I'd never ever knock renting. I'd rather have done that than live at home during my 20's anyway.

I actually set a tent up in my parents back garden if ever I have to stay there nowadays after weddings etc in the area and I can't get home.

Second I moved out, my old man made my bedroom into a study so that I couldn't go back the cheeky fucker - ha ha

That's bollocks.
Anyone who works 40 hours a week should be able to afford a decent standard of living.
That isn't the case because people with money are greedy selfish cunts.

No wonder folk take the piss out of the welfare system.

People need to lower their expectations of what they think they are entitled to, or work a bit harder to get what they want.

I bought a motor home and kip in that. I'm not in the country that much anyway and I ain't paying a grand a month for a gaff I might use 5 days per month.

Indeed, I had to move 35 miles to the coast in order to be able to afford a flat twice the size of one I would have got in Hornchurch for more money.

I'm happy there, but I'm sure some would hate moving so far away from their parents, friends and families and especially if they didn't drive.

That was 12 years ago, fuck knows how kids manage it now without their parents having to pay their deposits etc.

Re: Kids in their 30's still at home with parents
This is what happens when you have a country unable to buy houses because of shit wages (blaming recessions), but allowing foreigners to buy and rent in the UK.

First time buyers are approaching 40 years old now. (currently 38 y/o) and predicted to be well into their 40's in about 8 years time.

I'd read last year or so that even people on good wages in london say they're still struggling to even buy food to afford rent too.

Sooner or later you'll have houses with married couples or non married people living together and paying mortgages together.

It's totally fucked.

Come on Moose, you know the rules.

Link to the daughter and her friends please, so we can advise if you're being too harsh on getting her out.

Already told my missus that if her daughter hasn't moved out in the next 5 years then I will. So I'll be 47 and moving back to my mum's!!!

Never understood that. I would rather be the master of my own gaff doing my own laundry and cleaning and cooking etc and have a fiver a week spending money than rely on soemone else

If you all get along with each other what is the problem, if his mother thinks you are trying to force him out it maybe you that will be looking for another place.
Despite all the shouting, Mother- son relationship is very hard to break down.

I can understand that it's often a matter of necessity in Spain, Greece and Italy. Spain has over 50% youth unemplyment and whole generation of young folk who won't be able to leave home.

Firstly, your partner should have him tested undiagnosed high-functioning autism. If that's all negative then stop washing his clothes, washing his sheets, cleaning his room and feeding him. And put a lock on the fridge and chocolate drawer.

Re: Kids in their 30's still at home with parents
i never had the living at home thing as went to uni and basically never went back. i think part of the problem is being used to the money. at home there is no council tax, gas bill etc. just your mum cooking for you everyday!

if you sat down and worked out by moving out, 75% of your wages would be gone each month on living expenses i wouldnt move out either!
